AsiaWorks Leadership Programme volunteers create an "Amazing Race" for underprivileged children
July 10, 2005

SINGAPORE – Participants from Singapore–based AsiaWorks Training's Leadership Programme (LP 48)together with some 30 volunteers created joy, fun and love for 70 underprivileged children from the Moral Student Care Centre, Moral Family Service Centre and the Children's Aid Society. The event was an "Amazing Race" style of activities where the children learn values and have experiences to inspire and empower them towards having a life of excellence.

"The day of activities was very good and our children, including myself enjoyed the day so much," said Faridah Ridwan, Programme Co–ordinator with Moral Family Service Centre (Bedok North).

"Happy memories are well embedded in my heart. An experience that I will not forget was watching one kid, who was not opening up to anyone, end the day with a smile while designing a cake with 3 volunteers. I have a photograph taken at that very moment which reminds me every morning that I could add a smile to another person on this new day. It is heartening to know that such wonderful people like LP48 still exist. Thank you for this opportunity," said volunteer, Fiona Xu, aged 22.

"What I learned is that we don't need a lot of people nor a lot of time to create a spectacular event that can make a difference in people's lives. Both the children and the volunteers were very happy and had a great time on that day. From the event, I realised that there are many children from underprivileged and broken homes who need our love and care," said Cheryl Liew, a Company Director and a participant in AsiaWorks LP48.

AsiaWorks is continually looking for ways to contribute to the local community so that people can learn and grow through service to others. The AsiaWorks Basic Training, Advanced Course and Leadership Programme are offered to the general public on a monthly basis in cities throughout Asia .
