A "Family" Day for underprivileged children and the elderly
April 10, 2005
SINGAPORE – The AsiaWorks Training Leadership Programme 46 (LP46) came together today and organised an event for 112 underprivileged children and senior citizens from seven beneficiary homes at the Forest Lodge in the Singapore Zoological Gardens, LP46 brought together people of varying age groups to experience "family", trust and care for each other throughout the day of fun activities.
Activities included a live band performance and Selena Tan, actress/comedian, volunteered her time to entertain. The children and the elderly also enjoyed, animal shows, cartoon drawing lessons, karaoke and sing–a–long sessions.
"In reaching out to the young and the old, LP46 and the volunteers reached within themselves and brought forth love, compassion, confidence and energy, faith and hope. Every individual left the day feeling a part of something greater than themselves, and in doing so were greater for it," said Terence Ng, 32, a systems project manager and participant of the programme.
AsiaWorks is continually looking for ways to contribute to the local community so that people can learn and grow through service to others. The AsiaWorks Basic Training, Advanced Course and Leadership Programme are offered to the general public on a monthly basis in cities throughout Asia .
