Love, Contribution, Achievement
December 11, 2005
TAIPEI – After numerous phone calls and visits, we finally got into contact with CCF (Chinese Children Fund) Hualien Charter and obtained their support successfully. TPLP113 decided that we were going to host a one–day fun camp for the aborigine children in care of the Hualien CCF at Dahan Institute of Technologies. We were hoping that with this one–day event, we could guide these children how to solve problems on their own, at the same time, learn how to trust, care, and accept others. This fun camp was meant to be fun and educational.
It was going to be a group effort because this event revolved around love and care from the people they had never met before. This event required assistance from many people and we successfully raised fund and materials. We wanted to bring more love and care to the children so they can all enjoy this fun camp.
On the day of the event, we welcomed the children expectantly. We had never met these children before and vice versa. Because of this, most the children would shut us out and were untrusting. During the activities, we guided the children through a series of subjects, such as team formation and team competitions. We had the children create a team that was their own and through activities, they learned how to work together as a team. The children were also taught the importance of recycling during lunchtime.
The last activity of the day was launching sky lanterns. As the lanterns rose up into heaven, they also bore the hopes and dreams of the children with them. As they were leaving, their faces were filled with happiness and gratefulness. We knew that they acknowledged our love and care. It was a tiring day but when they told us thank you and asked us to come back, it just made everything worthwhile. This was what contribution is all about. It was making a difference.
