Michelle Beck
Michelle Beck joined AsiaWorks in 2004 and facilitates the Advanced Course and a variety of workshops. She brings a unique blend of management experience and Asian cultural knowledge. Michelle has lived and worked in Asia for over 18 years and is fluent in Mandarin. Prior to joining AsiaWorks, Michelle was a member of the executive team at Global Sources, one of Asia's first and most successful B2B internet businesses. She was part of the team that orchestrated the transition from print media to a NASDAQ listed E-Commerce company. As the Vice President of Community Development she led of a team of 150 people in seven countries. She received her Bachelors of Arts degree from Augustana College and her Master of Arts in Modern Chinese history from the University of Wisconsin - Madison (USA).
Mel Christie
Mel Christie has over 30 years experience as a consultant and trainer in the areas of personal and organisational transformation, leadership development, team effectiveness, strategic planning and implementation. A recognised expert in the fields of conflict resolution, leadership development, executive team building, and executive coaching, Mel has assisted Fortune 500 executives in the USA, Canada, and Asia to realise more of their personal potential and enhance corporate effectiveness. Corporate experience includes: Wells Fargo Bank, IBM, Vtech Holdings, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Chase Manhattan Bank, Duke Energy, Intel, NYNEX and AT&T. Mel has been a guest speaker at the Neuro-Linguistic Programming National Convention and the American Society of Training & Development. Mel received his undergraduate degree from St. John's University, and a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from John F. Kennedy University (USA). He is an Associate of AsiaWorks and is based in Northern California.
James P. Cook
Jim Cook leads AsiaWorks, directing a US$12 million company
with seven locations across Asia, conducting trainings and
seminars for nearly 30,000 participants a year. He began his career in real estate
brokerage and development after earning a Bachelor's Degree in
Psychology from Texas State University (USA) and has nearly 20 years
experience in the training industry. Jim continues to facilitate
trainings on a regular basis and has conducted programmes for leading
multi-national and Asian corporations, including Allied Domecq, AT&T, Bank Mandiri,
Cathay Pacific and Hindustan Lever.
Gene Dunaway
Gene Dunaway has been an Associate of AsiaWorks since 1997. He began his career
as an attorney, providing legal services to low-income men and women in rural
Arkansas. In 1988, he left his legal practice to work in the field of
transformational education. From 1988 to 1997, he led personal effectiveness
trainings for more than 25,000 participants in the United States, Canada and
Russia. In 1992, Gene founded a company committed
to researching and designing adult learning environments that facilitate the
transition to a peaceful and sustainable future. Gene has supported thousands of people in
their personal growth by leading AsiaWorks Basic Trainings in Hong Kong, Taiwan,
Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Europe. He has a bachelor's degree in psychology
from Hendrix College and a doctorate in law from the University of Arkansas. He is
based in Arkansas, USA.
Chris Gentry
Chris is a lifelong outdoorsman and a leader in
outdoor experiential education. After graduating from college in 1976 with
a Bachelor of Science degree in Rehabilitation and Counselling, Chris
established the first Incarceration for Youth "California Wilderness Trainings"
and subsequently developed trainers and ran similar programmes for the States
of Alaska, Washington and Oregon. He went on to be the director of the California
Outward Bound School. Later, Chris became a facilitator for a California-based
experiential education company and focused his energy on a number of philanthropic
and cultural exchange programmes, including Project RAFT - "Russians and Americans
for Teamwork," an outdoor leadership partnership in which Chris became the first
American to run white water in Siberia. His rafting includes the first descent on
two major Russian rivers. A member of the American team to attempt climbing the
Tibet side of K2, Chris is a Master Ropes Course Builder, translating his love for
mountain climbing into developing safe, challenging ropes courses and training
experiences for corporate and public group use. Chris brought exciting and new Ideas to Japan while working with experiential learning facilitators. Chris then brought his personal experience to Hong Kong where AsiaWorks was developed. He has completed over 350 training
weeks during his career, founded and serves as Chairman of AsiaWorks and continues
to lead public training courses and mentor developing trainers.
Mark Hemstedt
Mark Hemstedt is responsible for AsiaWorks operations in Southeast Asia and developing markets. Mark is a lead trainer and consultant and has conducted programmes in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas for a number of multi-national companies, charities and UN groups. Prior to joining AsiaWorks, he worked for over 12 years with the multi-national Unilever, most recently as Commercial and Finance Director in Malaysia. Mark has held senior positions with companies in the UK, Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and China. He has a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Accounting and Financial Analysis from Warwick University (UK) and is an Associate Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA).
Ken Ito
Ken Ito is a talented facilitator specialising in the AsiaWorks Basic Training. He is an expert in designing and facilitating indoor and outdoor experiential training programmes. Ken has 13 years experience working with companies in Asia, the
US, and Europe, to increase efficiency, enhance communication, build teamwork,
and dramatically improve bottom-line results. Clients include: Shell, Phillips,
Oracle, JP Morgan Chase, Grand Hyatt, Cathay Pacific and Nike. Before joining
AsiaWorks in 1997, Ken was Managing Director of KKI Associates, Asia, a
consulting and training firm specialising in staff development, team building,
leadership training and motivational speaking. He was
certified to do the Samurai Game® created by Mr. George Leonard. Ken earned his undergraduate
degree in psychology at University of Illinois and his Masters of Education at
University of Hawaii (USA).
Marcus Marsden
Marcus Marsden was appointed to manage all sales and operations for our Indonesian
office in 2004, concurrent with serving as a trainer. He joined AsiaWorks following a successful 12-year career
with Unilever, where he honed his leadership and management skills in brand and
marketing management. Marcus was trained in Creative Thinking and Facilitation
Skills by What If, one of the foremost creative agencies in the UK, and in 2000,
took responsibility for Unilever's Change Leadership and Communication initiative.
In this role, he developed and delivered transformational workshops and coached
senior managers and teams. He holds an honours degree in Philosophy and Theology from Oxford University (UK).
Gareth McIlroy
Gareth McIlroy is responsible for scheduling and financial administration for the training department in addition to leading training programmes throughout Asia. A talented trainer and executive coach, Gareth has conducted programmes and coached executives from multinational companies including Standard Chartered Bank, Shell and Unilever. Before joining AsiaWorks, Gareth worked as a project engineer, project manager, and business development manager for major international construction companies in London, Gibraltar, Malaysia and Thailand. Originally from Northern Ireland, he earned his Bachelors of Science with Honours in civil engineering from Loughborough University (UK), and a Masters Degree in Management from Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok, Thailand).
Mickey McQuaid
Mickey McQuaid has been an Associate of AsiaWorks since 1995, specialising in the
AsiaWorks Advanced Course. She has more than 20 years experience in the training
industry, and has supported more than 40,000 participants in the United States of
America, Russia, and Asia to achieve powerful breakthroughs in their personal and
professional lives. Since 1994, Mickey has worked as a consultant and workshop
leader with a wide variety of companies in the US and Asia, assisting executives
and managers to clarify goals, increase productivity, improve communication between
staff and clients, decrease staff turnover, and develop total quality service.
Mickey graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz with a BA in
Theatre, and did graduate work in theatre at the New York University School of the
Arts. She is based in Southern California (USA).
Graham Poston
Graham Poston joined AsiaWorks as a coach and has been effective at working with a diverse range of individuals
and teams at all levels. Graham combines his passion and experience of coaching with a
sound commercial and business understanding developed during his previous roles.
Most recently, he was a Business Development Director within the Virgin group of
companies, where he was responsible for the expansion of the Virgin brand into
new markets. Prior to this he spent over eight years in the finance sector with Deutsche
Bank and BNP Paribas, where he successfully raised project financing and completed
merger and acquisition transactions for major companies and projects in the telecom,
power and infrastructure sectors. Graham speaks Italian and is a graduate of Durham
University in the UK.
Bill Randall
Bill Randall brings a unique blend of entrepreneurial experience and
leadership skills, corporate management and academic teaching to his work
as a trainer and coach for AsiaWorks. As an Adjunct Professor of
Entrepreneurship and Director of Moot Corp. Entrepreneurship Programme at
Thammasat University (Thailand), Bill lectures and mentors students in creating
business ideas and bringing them to life as businesses. He coaches experienced business people in realising new aspirations
and opportunities for leadership and success at work. His experience includes
organising and delivering custom corporate training for the Australian Embassy's
Political and Commercial departments and Austrade. He has been an invited speaker
at the Asia Business Forum on Entrepreneurship and Business Plan Development.
Bill earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Entrepreneurial Management from
The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania (USA) and a Master of Management
joint degree from The Wharton School, J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management
and Chulalongkorn University (Thailand).
Michael Rosso
Michael Rosso is an Associate of AsiaWorks. He has over 20 years experience as
a professional facilitator and has worked with over 50,000 people worldwide in
the areas of vision and goal setting, effective communication, leadership and
coaching. He has been responsible for training design and delivery of Basic
Trainings and Mastery Courses, as well as continuing education workshops for
educators, adults and youth. He began work in the field of experiential education
after a career as a professional opera singer in the United States and Europe,
and he brings a dynamic array of skills and talents to the training environment.
Michael did his undergraduate work in English Literature at University of
California, Santa Barbara, and post-graduate work in Music at University of
California, Los Angeles and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (USA). He is
based in Northern California (USA).
Gordon Sutton
Gordon Sutton joined AsiaWorks in 1999, after 15 years in Sales, Marketing and
Management in the construction sector including major contracts in the UK, Australia,
UAE and Malaysia. Gordon served for seven years in the British Army Corps of Royal
Engineers, where he studied Civil Engineering at the Royal School of Military
Engineering in Kent, England and graduated as a Survey Engineer in 1982. At AsiaWorks,
Gordon specialises
in teambuilding and leadership coaching, and is a certified ropes course outdoor education
facilitator.
Bernard Tang
Bernard Tang joined AsiaWorks in 2000, and has progressed from field work
in leadership and customer relations, to certification as a Cantonese-speaking
trainer in 2003. Bernard is a multi-faceted trainer; he facilitates the AsiaWorks Basic Training, Advanced Course and other workshops. Previously, Bernard worked as an Executive Officer for the
Hong Kong Government from 1995 to 2000, assigned to various departments
including Public Affairs, Immigration and Health. A Hong Kong native, he earned
his Bachelor's degree in English, literature and sociology from the University
of Hong Kong.
Miranda Yen
As the first Mandarin speaking trainer in AsiaWorks, Miranda Yen has trained over 5,000 students in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and China from various sectors and levels in personal effectiveness, leadership, and communications. With a Taiwanese background and educational exposure to the western culture, Miranda is fluent in Mandarin, English, Cantonese, and Shanghainese, making her one of the most versatile multi-lingual trainers in AsiaWorks. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from University of Mary Washington in Virginia, USA. Before she joined AsiaWorks in 1997, Miranda worked extensively in marketing and advertising, including the well-known multi-national advertising agency Leo Burnett. Miranda is also the first AsiaWorks trainer certified to conduct The Samurai Game® by George Leonard.
